Video Endoscopy

Cain Veterinary Centre has just taken delivery of a new Video- Endoscopy system, which will further enhance our diagnostic capabilities. We now have a new bronchoscope, which is useful for looking down into the airways and lungs of both cats and dogs. This can also be used to look up into the back of the nose (nasopharynx), which is a difficult area to access, and it has already been put to good use to retrieve a grass blade from up a cat’s nose!

We already have an Olympus gastroscope which is used to look into the stomach and intestines, and have also invested in a small rigid endoscope, which has many uses including examination of the bladder, nasal passages, ear canals, and joints.

As this is a complete video-endoscopy system, the images can now be displayed on a monitor during the investigation, and images can be captured in the form of videos or stills which can be stored in the patient records.

Mark Overend, Small Animal Director commented “Having a complete video-endoscopy system has been on my wish list for many years now, as there are occasions where we need this additional imaging to reach a definitive diagnosis. With the ability to video the procedure now, it means that we have the images at our fingertips so that we can make better decisions with treatment plans. Being able to demonstrate what we have found will also enable clients to better understand the diagnosis”
